Cultural parks and the integration of cultural and natural heritage

Undoubtedly, the creation of asset protection contained “CULTURAL PARK”, whose origin is in the Community of Aragon, and now is one that envisaged for the declaration of cultural interest, as indicated by the Law 4 / 1998 Cultural Heritage Valenciano, has been a great boost to the idea of final interrelationship and integration of patrimonial assets, both cultural and natural , in an unbreakable whole. A Cultural Park is a designated area, with natural and cultural values related to an inventory of resources aimed at the development of its territory in a comprehensive and integrated.

To give some examples, it is unthinkable to imagine a set of caves or shelters with prehistoric art outside their natural environment, which in many cases is essential to those people that precisely chose this place, which often sanctified . Similarly, something similar could happen, for example, with sets of historic towers and elements of interior or coastal defense, always located in natural surroundings of great strategic value that highlight further the heritage value of the property itself, apart of great beauty that in many cases, contain the scenic landmarks that envelop them.

Therefore, the natural surroundings of these Assets of Cultural Interest , which are commonly known as the “BIC Environment” , are critical in terms of common heritage conservation , both to avoid potential threats and the urban pressure on historic buildings themselves, as well as the conservation of scenic areas of great beauty and ecological value that often surround the built heritage.

In this way not only the scientific research and study of historical is done, but also the natural environments are analysed , being one of its objective to keep and put in value them for the enjoyment of the community. In this regard, it is important the educational usage is made of these these capital assets , because it’s worked to achieve respect not only for the monuments or historical buildings, but also for the natural areas where they are settled in.
