AGGRESSION: Es molÍ De sa Punta, Sant Antoni de Portmany, Ibiza

AGRESSION: Es molÍ De sa Punta. Sant antoni de portmany

This is one of the many denunciation photos that Jose B. Ruiz has made during his trip to analyse Ibiza island fof the S.O.S. Spanish Coastline project. It is amazing and sad to see the impressive degradation that has been carried out in our Spanish coasts without anyone setting limits.

In the words of Jose B. Ruiz (in this picture):

It is necessary to understand that nothing should grow without measure. Moderation and planning must take precedence over greed

Many of the photos Jose took in Ibiza are already uploaded to our Flickr account and can also be seen directly on this blog in the Photos of the analysis section.

Flickr is the tool we’re using to go to show photos of the project. We are categorized them into 3 types:

  • AGGRESSION: Pictures like the one shown in this article, which show the attacks that have been carried out on our shores.
  • TO BE PROTECTED: Photos of places of great ecological and natural value, where, although some attacks have been committed, it is possible to make environmental policies and actions to carry out protection of the site.
  • PROTECTED: Photos of places and areas that are already protected (such as national natural parks).

In addition, all the pictures being taken are geopositioned so we can locate on a Google map. This map is now available in the blog section of analysis map.

On this map, we see different pictures geopositioned , which are showing as the  mouse passed over the blue marks that are displayed on the map and if you click on them you go to a tool that allows you to navigate more easily through photos and click on them to enlarge it. Zoom controls (+ and -) can be used to zoom the map and alsoou can zoom in double clicking on the map. This allow us to more easily locate the areas where images have been taken.

Visit us often as we will continue uploading photos on a regular basis.

(Español) S.O.S. Paisajes de Mar: Análisis de IBIZA

Project co-ordinator at Ibiza: José Antonio Porras.

Eivissa desde puertoWe have started the detailed analysis of the spanish coast, province by province. The first destination to complete is the island of Ibiza, at the Baleares archipelago.

Our project co-ordinator at Ibiza is José Antonio Porras, great photographer and better friend. With the maps, aeroguides and helpful information, the work has been developing with good rythm. Forecast days haven´t been of help for the photographs and limit the best times to half an hour prior to sunrise and after sunset. The rest of the day is dedicated to locate and analyse what has happened there.

Illa de s´Espart. Cala de comte

TO BE PROTECTED: Some islet and and reefs of certain entity create a landscape of great posbilities. The small creeks have an important erosion index.

Since Monday 25th May and for a week I was traveling through these mithic coasts. The surface of the island is bigger of what I expected and the access to the locations sometimes are hard, specially in the best preserved places. Here I count on the help of several photographers of the GFN (Nocturnal Photography Group), I met several years ago in one of my workshops at Cabo Gata. Thanks to them everything is easier to reach and, even, we have made some nocturnal, our speciality. Also I have the support of some dozens of enthusiastic photographers from Ibiza Fotoclub and Ibiza Flickr´s, communities that have helped me and accompanied in several sessions.

From the Consell of Ibiza I have been very well attended, by Ricardo Gómez, from the area of Sports, as well as by Marisol Torres, Manager of Environmental Politics of the Consell d´Eivissa, who with I could see all the hopeful changes that have started to happen in relation with the conservation of the natural areas.

Cala nova. Es canar

AGGRESSION: The area of Es Canar, between Cala Nova and Punta Arabí, with a high landscape value, has suffered the construction of big residential buildings a few meters away from the sea. In some areas where the erosion progresses, the promenade is just 2 meters away from the sea. In days of temporary wave enters the gardens of the urbanisations.

In the meantime, the rest of the S.O.S. team is busy on different tasks, some preparing texts for the book, the website and exhibitions, other in finding supports and help, the dessign team will soon start with the website, and the media to show the results of this project.

Be in touch, briefly we´ll put the complete amazing results of this first prospection of the crusade. The website, which will integrate this blog, is starting to be developed.

NOTE: You can see the photo we are taking for the project in the photos area of this blog or in our Flickr page
