Fernando Prieto is currently working on environmental and sustainability issues since the end of the university in 1986. He has been an adviser to the Cabinet of the Presidency of the Government and worked 9 years as a consultant in the Ministry of Environment statistics and environmental sectors that influence in environment, for OECD and EUROSTAT.
He has also worked in the private private sector in consultancy firms like Gemapsa, Tragsatec APASA, etc. .. especially on issues of environmental impact assessment and strategic environmental assessment.
He holds a PhD in Ecology at the Autonomous University of Madrid and has taught in the Department of Ecology at the University of Alcalá and the University of San Pablo CEU in the areas of environmental assessment, natural resource ecology and land Restructuring .
He has published books about forest fires and imports of tropical timber as well as publications on sustainability indicators, environmental indicators, etc … He has done reports for NGOs such as Greenpeace, WWF, Ecologists in Action and New Water Culture Foundation. He has given confereces in Chile, Nicaragua, U.S., Italy and Switzerland,
He is founder and coordinator of the Observatory for sustainability in Spain, doing thematic reports on changes of land use, air quality in cities, sustainability reports, etc. .. some of these reports, particularly relating to land use and urbanization of the coasts, have had great media coverage.
He is currently working on the State Agency for the Evaluation of Public Policy.
His areas of interest include the sustainability of public policies and their evaluation, sustainable quality of life and maintenance and restoration of ecosystems with an acceptable degree of conservation for future generations. He is aware of the current serious social and economic inequities and imbalances and the responsibily that we have within our own generation and for future generations.
